Join us for Lunches on the Lawn and turn your lunch break into a lively exchange of ideas! Each week, guest moderators will tackle exciting and varied topics, sparking conversations about both the academic and professional worlds. Come ready to engage, share, and enjoy a great lunch!
Free lunches for the first 10 attendees. The free lunch will include a sandwich, a bag of chips, and a small desert.

March 18, 2025: Learning Styles and Self Compassion– Join us for a compassionate discussion and self-reflection focused on what are the different learning styles and how they can be utilized in ways to best serve scholastic and daily situations. This discussion will be led by Mary O’Connor from George Mason University’s University Life Mason Square.
March 25, 2025: Mason Pride Week- Learn about the LGBTQ+ Resource Center, Mason Pride Week, and the 2025 Pride Week events. This Lunches on the Lawn will be led by Lu GK from George Mason University’s LGBTQ+ Resource Center.
April 1, 2025: Body Effects of Chronic Stress and Ways to De-Stress – Join us to learn more about what defines chronic stress, what that can mean for our bodies, and some different ways to de-stress. This discussion will be led by Student Health Services of George Mason University.
April 8, 2025: Grit, Wit, and the Art of Pushing Through “It” – This week’s discussion will be about taping into determination, humor, and dedication to help you get through challenges in life. This Lunches on the Lawn discussion will be led by Hope Miller from George Mason University’s Student Involvement. This Lunches on the Lawn will be held inside Van Metre Hall, in the lobby sitting area.
April 15, 2025: Finding Your Community– Join is for a fun and informative discussion about the benefits of finding groups to share a common interest, leaning into being new at something, and building connections in your local community. This discussion will be led by Melissa Thierry from University Life Mason Square, with possible special guests from the Vespa Club of DC.
April 22, 2025: What Can Student Health Services Do for You – Join us for an informative discussion about what resources and care Student Health Services can provide to GMU students. This discussion will be led by Student Health Services of George Mason University.
April 29, 2025: Bootok Made Me Read It: Join us for a lunchtime full of books! We’ll discuss recommendations, DNF (did not finish), and our current TBR (to be read) piles. This Lunches on the Lawn discussion will be led by Mary O’Connor from University Life Mason Square.
May 6, 2025: Swipe Safely: Protecting Yourself from Exploitation in Online Dating– This week’s discussion will delve into the topic of cautious optimism and how to avoid being exploited in the realm of online dating.
